Break quarantine or wait another week?

Break quarantine or wait another week? ( u_heresmytwopence / heresmytwopence ) Ten days ago on Fri Nov 10, I left the house for 4 hours and arrived back home to find my 7-month-old, 9 lb / 4 kg, neutered male DSH kitten sitting on the floor almost completely inanimate, with face covered in saliva and saliva actively dripping from his mouth. I rushed him to the nearest vet, who did xrays and CBC to rule out poisoning or foreign object ingestion and then discharged him, seeing no problem. Less than an hour later, with his lethargy continuing to worsen, I brought him to the nearest emergency vet where his temperature was 106.8F and they noted ulceration on his tongue. He was referred to a critical care hospital where they admitted him and began treatment for suspected calicivirus infection with secondary bacterial infection. He twice tested negative for FIV/FeLV while hospitalized. He responded well to treatment, was discharged 7 days ago and seems to be fully recovered now. Discharge instructions included a two-week quarantine from the other cats in our household (2 litter mates + 2 other cats). A few days after his discharge, we were notified that the results of his respiratory PCR tests had come back NEGATIVE for all viruses, including calicivirus. They also stated that we could shorten his quarantine to one week (10 days since symptoms began), which would be today. I am torn between following the shortened quarantine and playing it safe. I would hate to keep him unnecessarily isolated as he is growing a little stircrazy, but also don’t want to place the other cats at unnecessary risk, especially with the lack of other explanations for his illness. The lab results even state that a negative result does not rule out infection, especially if he is a carrier.
